The township was originally established by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria. Most of the houses you see in the township were built to house construction workers for the Kiewa Hydroelectric Scheme in 1949. Many have since been renovated and updated. Almost all of the properties in Mt Beauty are within walking distance to the Main street and primary & secondary schools, as well as the beautiful lake & rivers.
The climate of Mount Beauty is truly seasonal, with chilling winters, cool and stunning springs, scorching summers and colourful autumns. Each season has its own attractions, including skiing, bushwalking, horse riding, gliding, bike riding (mountain and road) as well as fishing (river and lake).
